The brigantine Mary Celeste has been at sea for 23 days en route from New York to Genoa with a cargo of 1700 casks of commercial alcohol. It is a cargo the ship's compliment is unfamiliar with, and Captain Briggs is concerned with its volatile nature, particularly with the uncommonly warm weather this voyage. For the last 3 days the ship has experienced rough seas and gales, though she has weathered it well. This morning the storms broke and the day began with fair sailing. For the last few hours, however, the ship has been becalmed, and there is no reason to expect the winds to freshen this evening. This is not a matter of much concern. In fact, the still air comes as a welcome relief for the tired crew of the Mary Celeste. The Mary Celeste is an excellent vessel and in good hands. Captain Briggs is an outstanding master; his mates, Richardson and Gilling, are of unimpeachable character and competence, as are the cook and the crew of four. The Mary Celeste's only passengers, the Captain's wife Sarah and their daughter Lizzie, are quite at home at sea, as is fitting for a Captain's family. But for the lack of a breeze all is well with the Mary Celeste, though should the need arise there is a lifeboat. The ship carries a 20 foot yawl; more than fit to carry all aboard the Mary Celeste, though hardly a boat to be called on for a long voyage. The Mary Celeste lies approximately 500 miles off the island of Santa Maria in the Azores. There have been strange happenings aboard the Mary Celeste. A stowaway has been found hiding in the forecastle. The Captain is quite nonplussed to find a woman hidden on his ship. Her story has yet to be sorted out. The Mary Celeste has also been hailed by a be-furred savage in a canoe made of hides. How she came to be so far out at sea remains a mystery. At her insistence she has been taken aboard. It is early evening, an hour from sunset. CAST OF CHARACTERS Name Role But really... Captain Briggs says, "Well, Albert, what are we being served tonight?" Albert Head says, "Catch o' the day, Sir." Johan Martens does various maintenance tasks, such as JIBE HO!ing, swabbing decks, and picking his nose when no one is looking, which takes more skill than the former things. Sarah Briggs mutters to Lizzie Briggs, "Well, dear. Tis almost suppertime, hungry?" Captain Briggs says, "And Martens, light the torches." Dane Gilling clasps his hands and smiles at the rising moon. Johan Martens says, "AYE AYE, Sir!" Johan Volkert sits along the edge of the ship, smoking the last bit of a cigarette, and watching the moon rise. With a flick of his hand a lone ember arcs out over the wter and then vanishes. He turns to the Captain and cook. "Fish? Thank goodness... I was gettin' tired of that red meat alla time. No offence skipper." Uli Morningsong sits silent and enigmatic on the deck. She hasn't spoken to anyone really since she was brought aboard. Johan Martens walks to each torch with a lighting device of some kind and creates a huge flame on each. Lizzie Briggs looks up at Sarah. "Yes, mama! But no fish!" Johan Lorenzen leans against the foremast, fiddling with something in one hand as he looks out over the dead calm seas, watching the sun do it's boring thing. As the cooks words, he sighs, and mutters to no one in particular, "Fish again? Fish yesterday, fish today, fish tomorrow... I'm growing gills." Captain Briggs cautions, "Whoa, Martens. We don't need to catch the ship on...what was that!" Johan Martens's eyes go wide. "Mein GOTT. What was that?" Johan Volkert says, "Gott in Himmel... what da Hell vas dat?!" Brock Port squints over at the main hatch. Johan Goodschad leans on the edge of the ship beside Volkert, eyes watching the sea, waters bloodened by the red moon. He turns, blinking twice, at the flash along his peripheral vision. Albert Head reacts with a twitch. Argent scampers towards the flash. "Wow! What was it?" Bert Richardson watches the sun set, and looks to the sky for a moment. He watches the sky for a moment, ponderous, lips pinched shut tight. He nods, apparently satisfied, and then walks in his crisp gate over toward the Captain. There he stands, still and silent, his shoulder-width stance giving him excellent balance on the softly rolling ship. His eyes dart suddenly to the blue flash, and he walks over toward it. Johan Volkert runs quickly over to the hatch, looking for smoke, or any other sign of flame. Johan Martens slowly backs away from the hatch... Sarah Briggs's reply to her daughter is swallowed. Cat slinks out from the lower deck, stepping lightly with his padded feet. Quirking a head at the flash of light..... he prances over to the hatch and cuts a head indoor, mrowing softly. Captain Briggs notices Brock. "Halt! Who are you? Gillings, grab him!" Amelia Rangel starts to open her mouth, but strops and continues to study those arranged near her. Dane Gilling runs to intercept Brock. Johan Lorenzen misses the flasg because of his posistion, but at everyone else's sudden change in manner, turns, a puzzled look on his face. "Wot happened?" Lizzie Briggs backs up against Sarah's leg, staring wide-eyed at the commotion. Brock Port stands where he is, with a puzzled look on his face. Johan Martens just mumbles to himself..."Voices...now this. Good gott I need a drink." Uli Morningsong glances toward the flash, while one hand digs around inside a pouch for something. She puts whatever it is into her mouth and chews methodically. Albert Head watches the commotion, eyes darting to each individual as if looking for someone in particular. Johan Volkert takes off his cap and scratches his head. "Hell if I know. Looked like a flash of fire... but strangest damn fire I ever saw. It vas blue I swear. But now dere ain't nuttin." He looks over to see Brock and he shakes his head. Captain Briggs ignores Martens, as there is no Devil's brew on the ship. Sarah Briggs quickly gathers her daughter into her arms, murmuring a swift reassurance to her. Captain Briggs walks over to Brocks and asks, "What is your name, who are you, and how did you get on my ship?" Dane Gilling reaches for Brock ,then pauses, as he seems not to be fleeing. He glances to the Captain. Lizzie Briggs says, "What is it, mama?" Amelia Rangel watches the new arrival carefully, with a calculating look on her face. Johan Goodschad squints towards where the flash came from, then Brock, then Volker. Then the captain. Bert Richardson turns to his captain, and says crisply, "Sir. I shall investigate that light." With this, he disappears down the hatch. Albert Head takes in the appearance of the newcomer with interest. He 'hrms' softly to himself. Bert Richardson goes towards the Below Deck. Brock Port coolly glances at Gilling, then turns to the captain. Johan Volkert swats at the cat absently, "Shoe you! You got no business in dere!" He keepshs eyes on Brock though. Cat pulls away from the hatch, his hind quarters side stepping over and changing his course slowly moving away and towards the edge of the ship. Captain Briggs says, "I asked you a question, answer it if you wish to remain on this ship!" Brock Port speaks quietly to the Captain. Argent peers and sniffs and looks over at the captain. "Shall I go follow the gent' down there, Captain Sir?" Johan Martens walks slowly towards Brock, joining the others. Bert Richardson enters from the Below Deck. Lizzie Briggs watches her father from the safety of her mother's arms. Sarah Briggs hesitates, then says to Lizzie, "Nothing your father can't handle, child." Johan Volkert walks over to Goodschad and kneels down beside him, still watching the drama with Brock. He mutters, "Goodschad... dis is passin' strage for sure, ja? We got us a stowaway, a Eskimo woman in da middle of da damned ocean, blue fire dat ain't fire, and now dis guy. I don't like it at all. Not at all." he spits as if to punctuate his dislike of the situation. He fingers something small and shiny in his hands. "Fire? And now /another/ stowaway?" Lorenzen sighs, and, dropping whatever it was he was fiddling with back in a pocket, holds his head in his hands. "Mein gott. What a day." Dane Gilling looks around. "Did anyone find that cause of the flash?" he enquires while the Capt. and Port talk. Bert Richardson frowns as he reappears from the hatch. "There was a smell of something recently burned, Sir, but nothing else." He folds his hands over his chest, and then returns to his captain's side, whispering to him. Johan Martens blinks. "What...what if they wasn't stowaways? What if they were PUT here by something??!?" Captain Briggs whispers, "Yes, that I am to the newcomer." Johan Goodschad crosses his arms, watching the people before commenting aside to Volkert, "Ja. Nuthin is gonna create any good outta dis. Where do you think da stowaway come from?" Lizzie Briggs's little-girl eyes remain fixed on Papa. She asks her mother suspiciously, "Is this grownup stuff?" Albert Head scratches his chin, "Will there be one more for dinner, Cap'n?" he says loud enough to be heard. Amelia Rangel tries to look as harmless as possible. She's not very good at it. Uli Morningsong's expression remains bland. She might be listening. She might be in a world of her own. Maybe she doesn't even speak the language. But she does seem content to sit on the foredeck alone. Johan Lorenzen looks over at Martens and scoffs. "Ha. Look around you, dumbkopf. There's nothing but water for as far as you can see. What would put new people on the boat?" Dane Gilling steps back and looks Brock Port up and down. Captain Briggs looks up from his whispering and finds too many non-crewmembers on deck, and orders Gilling to take all non-crew non-passengers downstairs to the...erm, take them and give them a meal, Albert. Johan Martens glares at Lorenzen. "Shush, you..." he growls quietly. "Maybe there are workings here we cannot understand!?" Captain Briggs quickly says, "But not this one quite yet." Sarah Briggs nods to Lizzie, "It is, my heart. Why don't you go get your cat beforeit gets stepped on, with all this running about, hm?" Johan Volkert shakes his head, "I'll be damned if I know. I don't even know how dat girl got past us. I'm worried about dis ship. Youbetcha. Dis ain't a good sign." His brow is creased, and he definitely looks worried about something. Amelia Rangel stands up. "Captain, I must be allowed to observe!" Nibmly leaping upwards, The Cat lands on a small step and then lurches forward landinf perfectly on the ship's side railing. Plopping down into a sitting position, he begins to groom himself watching the frenzy of people with slight intrest. His small head moving over the crowd, his eyes with an eerie look in them. Albert Head nods to the Captain, "Aye, Sir." He gestures, "Follow me, if you're hungry." He turns and heads below. Captain Briggs looks at Amelia and says, "You? Why, exactly?" Johan Goodschad says, "P'haps we should go look where da flash came from?" Lizzie Briggs says, "Yes, mama!" Gleefully, she runs towards the cat. "Here, kitty!" Albert Head goes towards the Below Deck. Johan Martens slowly walks to the hatch... Captain Briggs whispers to Gillings, "And keep them in sight." Uli Morningsong doesn't go. Maybe she doesn't understand. Brock Port turns cool blue eyes to survery the ship as the passengers head down to the mess. Amelia Rangel smiles. "I'm a reporter for the London Courrier. I was planning to write a story on life at sea, but this is so much more important!" Johan Martens goes towards the Main Hatch. Dane Gilling turns around. "Good folks, below decks, please..." Captain Briggs says, "Wait, leave this women here too." and sighs. Dane Gilling nods. Captain Briggs motions to Amelia, that is. Johan Volkert scratches his grizzled chin and stands up next to Goodschad. "I looked. But maybe you see someting I missed. And anyway, I got to eat soon." He eyes the passengers following Cook Head down into the ship with interest. Sarah Briggs follows her daughter, intending to herd the both of them belowdecks. Bert Richardson arches a slightly suspicious brow, and remarks to Amelia, "A strange craft you chose to take from London, miss." MAIN HATCH: Johan Martens goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Johan Martens enters from the Main Hatch. Dane Gilling spreads his arms to herd the other to the ladder. Johan Goodschad murmurs aside to Volkert, "Ja; I want to talk to you about dat, actually." He pulls Volkert aside, murmuring. Johan Lorenzen laughs again. "Martens, you don't understand how a rudder works, much less how anything complicated." He falls quiet as the woman speaks, staring at her with something aproaching hatred in his face, and grunts quietly. "A woman stowaway... pfui. Bad enough luck to have a wench on board, much less an uninvited one..." Dane Gilling says, "Move along... good food below..." Lizzie Briggs runs ahead of her mother, happily bounding towards the kitty. Captain Briggs says, "Lorenzen, Volkert, you stay here and keep this ship on course." Cat's ears perk up, turning his head towards the young girl mreowing softly as he hops up and slowly saunters along the railing. Johan Martens shakes his head, walking over to the cat, and with pleading eyes, whispers to it hoping no one will notice. Amelia Rangel nods sadly. "I was supposed to be on the Marie Celeb. I must have mis-read. Johan Volkert nods, 'Aye aye Captain. We do dat." Johan Volkert turns to Goodschad, whispering, "Hey... keep yer damn voice down. I know all about dat." Johan Lorenzen lazily touches his hand to his forehead. "Aye aye, sir. We'll do that." Brock Port patiently waits on the Captain's good graces. BELOW DECK: Albert Head goes towards the Galley. GALLEY: Albert Head hrms. Albert Head goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Albert Head goes towards the Crew Quarters. CREW QUARTERS: Albert Head goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Albert Head goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Albert Head enters from the Below Deck. Bert Richardson goes towards the Canoe. Argent breaks out in a big grin and heads over towards the cat. Lizzie Briggs proclaims, "Kitty!" and reaches for the cat with both hands. Albert Head stands akimbo, "What? No one hungry?" Albert Head glances in the direction of the Cat. Johan Martens glares at little Lizzie. "I'm talking to dat cat, lil miss." Captain Briggs says, "So, you mis-read a ship's name, causing you to sneak onto this one and hide? I can't quite explain it, but your story, to put is nicely, is fairly...well...let's just say I feel there may be more." Argent warns the little girl, "Watch out, he might scratch." Uli Morningsong finally levers herself to her feet. She's a short, stumpy woman, with a round face. Johan Goodschad shrugs towards Volkert, making a 'naughty naughty' sign with his left index finger. He walks over towards Lizzie and the kitty. "You like da cat, ja?" Continuing its trek across the railing, The Cat stops looking up at Martens quirking his head slightly and meows softly before Lizzie picks him up. Leaning his head back against her body he rubs softly against her. Captain Briggs says, "As for you, Brock, you appear to have no story at all." Amelia Rangel sighs. "Ok, Cap, you got me. I'm writing a book, and stowed away on purpose." Lizzie Briggs stops right by the cat and glares at Marten with all the fury a little girl can muster. "Mama sad I could take the kitty!" she declares petulantly. Johan Volkert pulls ouot his bag of tobacco and papers and starts rolling one. His hands shake ever so slightly in the rolling. "God damn wind," he mutters. There is no wind. He casts a baleful gaze at Uli, Brock and Amelia. "No good at all." Johan Martens sighs and growls to himself, walking over to the Boom and yelling, "JIIIIIBE HOOOO!!!" as he does the Jibing of the ship. Dane Gilling looks off at the rising moon, then goes back to the task of getting people below. Uli Morningsong grunts, "Good for me. I catch you." Sarah Briggs arrives beside her daughter, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Time for supper, darling." Lizzie Briggs scratches the cat behind the ear. "Good kitty!" Johan Volkert finally finishes his cigarette and stuffs it in his mouth. Lighting it, he heads over to man the rudder. Uli Morningsong says, "Paddle, paddle all day. All night. Good, no wind." Lizzie Briggs shakes her head. "No fish, mama! Mr. Head always makes fish!" Brock Port says, "Captain, again I apologize for the inconvenience. I am as much displeased to be here as you are to have me, and it is more of a mystery. To have a stowaway is a normal thing for a ship, but to suddenly be on a ship is a strange thing indeed." Captain Briggs looks daggers at Volkert. "You may not swear in the presence of children, and you may not take the Lord's name in vain at all!" Sarah Briggs smiles placatingly at the gentlemen. "There's plenty of time for the rest of you to play with the cat after supper." Cat purrs softly, continuing to watch Marten with a glint of intrest. Albert Head sees the people mingling toward his direction and heads back below to make the final preparations for dinner. Johan Goodschad scratches his head as he observes Lizzie, and murmurs, "Ja, ya do." He turns and looks at the captain, and then reaches into his pocket. He pulls out a pre-rolled smoke, lights it with a sulpher stick. Johan Volkert swears as he realizes there won't be any movement tonight. Deald calm. He changes direction and headss for the anchor. "Hey Goodschad, getcher lazy self over here and give me a hand!" Sarah Briggs says, "Well, Lizzie, let's go see what he's made." Albert Head goes towards the Below Deck. The little ships boy scowles at Marten too, though he says nothing. During the commontion, Bert Richardson seems to find himself not being very well-watched. He takes a few steps back, and then fumbles in one of his pockets for a moment. Uli Morningsong follows Albert now, waddling, her anorak tucked under her arm. She's not graceful, not used to being on board ship. Uli Morningsong goes towards the Below Deck. Sarah Briggs heads below. Sarah Briggs goes towards the Below Deck. Giving Mr. Marten one last dirty look over her shoulder, Lizzie traipses off alongside her mother, clutching the Cat to her tightly. Johan Goodschad says, "Keep ya pants on." Captain Briggs asks, "So, Mister Port, you were just, what? Walking down the road? And suddenly you find yourself here? And exactly what kind of fool do you take me for?" Johan Goodschad walks over towards Volkert, though, seeming cheerful enough, flames and strangers in the middle of nowhere considered. Johan Martens goes towards the Below Deck. Brock Port says, "No, sir, I was in my office." Lizzie Briggs goes towards the Below Deck. Cat goes towards the Below Deck. Brock Port says, "And then, yes, I was falling to the deck." Brock Port says, "And then I saw the flash, and the rest, well, you have been present for." Argent goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Albert Head goes towards the Galley. GALLEY: Uli Morningsong enters from the Below Deck. Uli Morningsong says, "You say dinner?" Uli Morningsong says, "Fish? Have fish." She brandishes some dried fish. They look like bits of leather with eyes. "Cook, good." Sarah Briggs enters from the Below Deck. Albert Head nods and smiles, "You like fish?" Lizzie Briggs enters from the Below Deck. Argent enters from the Below Deck. Johan Martens enters from the Below Deck. Cat enters from the Below Deck. MAIN DECK: Captain Briggs says, "Ah. In your office, and then falling to the deck? And did you happen to hit your head on the deck when you landed?" Brock Port says, "I do not... believe so." When next Volkart swears, it is under his breath, in deference to his captain. "Hey Goodschad, you tink we got all night?" He begins unfastening the anchor. Johan Lorenzen glances up at the bare masts, coming to the same conclusion as Volkert. Digging into his pocket, he pulls out the same trinket he had earlier, and holds it still a moment so someone watching can see what it is: a large coin, made of copper. Soon, he has it dancing between his fingers, an occasional glint of torchlight reflecting off it. With nothing to do to keep the ship on course, he remains listening to the captain and the stowaways. Johan Goodschad nods, helping Volkart with the work, as he says, "Probably. We have not da luck to hope otherwise." Captain Briggs says, "Ah, I see. And so you find yourself transported over the ocean, and landing on my ship? Well, this will certainly go down as the poorest excuse a stowaway has ever given." Amelia Rangel smiles to herself at that comment. GALLEY: Sarah Briggs says, "Ah, Mr. Head, it smells wonderful as usual." Still carrying the cat tightly against her, Lizzie follows Sarah into the galley. Uli Morningsong says, "Like fish. Like seal, huh. You got seal?" Albert Head gathers his meal for the evening: A large platter of freshly cooked fish, some vegetables (carrots and what-have-you), and fresh baked bread. He places them on the serving table alongside some eatingwares (plates and forks and cups). Argent scampers along behind mother and daughter and helpfully offers "Can I get a plate for you missy?" Albert Head wrinkles his nose a bit at 'seal'... "No. No seal. Fish." Lizzie Briggs makes a face at Argent, screwing her features up. "No fish!" Johan Martens grumbles at there being nothing good to eat and heads towards the Fore... Albert Head says, "Help yourselves, people. This ain't the Ritz."" Sarah Briggs looks at the ship's boy and smile's at his eagerness. "Thank you, Argent. Ah," she glances at LIzzie, "No fish for her tonight, then. But some of the rest, for certain." Sarah Briggs finds two appropriate seats for herself and Lizzie, and sits down at the table. Argent's face tries to back away faster than his neck and feet will follow. "Yes missy!" he replies all flustered and bright eyed. To the mother he says "I'll get food _Right_ away." Lizzie Briggs keeps stroking the cat's head as Argent gets her some food. She watches him all the while. MAIN DECK: Johan Martens enters from the Below Deck. Brock Port says, "Well, I wish I had a better." Brock Port says, "But as I am constrained by the truth, I must speak what is." Bert Richardson slowly begins to walk toward Amelia, his brow slightly furrowed as he looks her over with his ever narrow, nearly squinting gaze. Head back, he begins to walk to one side of her. "I'm sorry, I am afraid I did not hear your explanation. Twenty-three days is a frightful long time to remain hidden. Captain, I am correct, am I not? Twenty-three days since we left port?" Captain Briggs says, "Yes. You are correct there." Brock Port says, "Do I look as if I have been at sea for twenty-three days?" Dane Gilling looks Port up and down again. Brock Port says, "Let alone as a stowaway?" Johan Volkert mutters something to Goodschad, "...don't know... Goodschad... damn... killin' me...pyramid isn't...worried, youbetcha. What ...?" Captain Briggs says, "That is a rather long time to hide. Interesting point. And you don't look like you've been at see that long, and we've have no missing supplies..." "Twenty-three," the First Mate repeats himself yet again. "So. Who brought you the food and drink?" He arches his brow and replies to Brock, not bothering to look him over more than purfunctorily. "Yes. But I was not speaking to you. I was speaking to this woman." Johan Martens climbs up the pole to the Lookout area, trying to get away from all the commotion, grumbling about needing a drink. Amelia Rangel frowns. "I was going to write a book on ships. I snuck on a lot of them, taking notes. This one set sail before I could leave. I've been hiding, hoping to sneak off at landfall. My own store of dried food was exhausted just last night." Captain Briggs says, "Yes, if she could do it, he could...wait, are saying that someone one this ship was helping her?" Captain Briggs looks at Amelia again, "So, you just happend to have food? Interesting story." Brock Port says, "I hesitate to poke holes in a fellow traveller's story, but, if you were planning to leave why did you have three weeks of dried food on you?" Johan Goodschad mutters to Johan Volkert, "You a good man, Volkert; ..... dis .... be too much longa.. pyramid ain't workin'? Damnest. Da stinks.. hold ... dough... now." Amelia Rangel nods. "I have traveled around the world several times. I always carry supplies in case of disaster." Johan Volkert wipes his hands as he finishes with the anchor. He stands up and waits for Goodschad before heading back towards the fractious crowd around the captain. He simply nods in response to Goodschad's comments. Captain Briggs looks at Port, "Yes, and we could ask how you supernarurally land on my ship, out of the whole ocean. But, I feel that that would just be a waste of time to ask, so I won't." Dane Gilling says, "As you said though, Cap'n, there's naught missing from the stores..." he glances at Richardson, "...unless the records are wrong."" Johan Goodschad follows Volkert, his cigarette taking on a more cheery, less blood-oriented red at the tip as he inhales, exhales. Brock Port smiles wanly. Captain Briggs looks at Richardson. "Are the records wrong? I thought not." Dane Gilling looks concerned. Captain Briggs says, "This has to be the oddest voyage I've ever been on. Okay, Gilling, what is it?" As the two crewmen join the crowd, Lorenzen leaves, walking over to the railing and spitting over the side before meandering to the forecastle, and ducking inside. GALLEY: Uli Morningsong spoons herself up some fish, but refuses both vegetables and bread. She sits down and begins to eat. His fur ruffling slightly under the small child's hand, The Cat's eyes never seem to stick to one location glancing away and back to and fro. Sarah Briggs's gaze rests on the Inuit woman. "So, you do speak English," she says conversationally. Albert Head makes a clicking sound with his tongue, "*ck ck*", and scoots some fishheads into a clean spot in the corner, "Here, kitty..." Uli Morningsong nods, chewing. "Speak English. White man come to my village, bring their speak, bring whiskey." Lizzie Briggs sits down next to her mother, still holding the cat. "Nice, kitty," she says as she pets it face... whoops, she's watching the cabin boy while she pets the kitty! The ships boy rushes over to the cook, slowing as he nears the bald man. "Plates." That's the boy's first try. "With food on them." Argent adds "And No Fish!" comes out as a piping little order. Albert Head points Argent to the plates and forks next to the food, "There." Albert Head grabs a fork, stabs a fish, plops it on a plate, "Do I gotta show you how, lad?" Lizzie Briggs stares at Argent as he gets the food, her fingers ending up in the cat's ear briefly. Sarah Briggs listens to Uli, but manages also to keep on eye on her child. "Lizzie, let the kitty go get its supper from Mr. Head, too." As Albert raises his hand Argent backs several steps. He pauses, watching the fellow, then turns to gather the dinner. "Mama!" Lizzie complains, "The kitty wants to stay with me!" Sarah Briggs gives Lizzie a look. "You'll need your hands to eat with, Lizzie dear. The kitty will still be here when you're finished." Lets out a light hiss, as the Cat find having his face unsatisfactory. Slowly worming his way from the child's hands, he leaps from her lap and lands lightly on the floor. Maintaining his posture, he strolls over to the small corner dropping his head down low and begins to eat the fish. Uli Morningsong says, "Chase ship, chase dream. Boat need repair." Sarah Briggs frowns slightly at Uli's words, not understanding. "Chase dream? What do you mean?" Lizzie Briggs sighs as only a little girl parting with something warm and furry can. "Yes, mama." She puts the kitty down ever so reluctantly. Uli Morningsong's expression is bland and enigmatic. But who can tell what these natives mean about anything? Albert Head pulls out a large knife and begins slicing a fish filet with a quick chop-chop-chopping sound on the cuttinboard. MAIN DECK: Johan Lorenzen goes towards the Forecastle. FORECASTLE: Johan Lorenzen opens Lorenzen's Chest. GALLEY: Sarah Briggs sniffs faintly. "Well, I'm sure I wouldn't want to be out on the seas alone." Impatient, Lizzie stands up in her chair. Uli Morningsong says, "Not alone. White bear with me." She fingers the amulet around her neck. "White bear companion." Sarah Briggs says, "Lizzie, sit down." MAIN DECK: Johan Volkert stops off at a respectful distance from the captain. He elbows Goodschad, "Hey... let's gosee how da cook is doin'." Dane Gilling says, "Captain, with your leave, I will investigate..." Captain Briggs looks up, "Martens, find Lorenzen and both of you grab a bite to eat. Goodschad, Volkert, stay here until they relieve you." Johan Volkert sighs, "Aye aye Captain." Johan Martens says, "Aye aye, /CAP'n/." Johan Goodschad blinks at the captain; his eyes almost seeing the fish on his plate, the fish itself bored and unsurprised. "Aye aya captain." Wistful. Dane Gilling steps towards the hatch indicating he means to check the stores and chat with the cook. Captain Briggs says, "Okay, Gillings, you may investigate the food situation. And see if you can figure out where HE", points to Port, "came from. And the, what, two other people are doing, too." Captain Briggs mutters to himself, "This might as well be a hotel." Dane Gilling says, "Aye, sir!" Dane Gilling goes towards the Below Deck. Johan Martens goes towards the Main Hatch. MAIN HATCH: Johan Martens goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Johan Martens goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Johan Martens goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Johan Martens goes towards the Forecastle. FORECASTLE: Johan Lorenzen closes Lorenzen's Chest. Johan Martens says, "Capn wants us to grab supper." Johan Lorenzen is standing by his open chest, looking into it, but he knocks the lid shut with a bang as he hears someone else enter, then turns to see you. "Ah, dumbkopf Martens... he does? Well, I don't feel like getting any, if it's from Head. With that swill he passes of, it's a wonder he hasn't given any of us food poisoning, ja?" Johan Martens gives you some kind of rude "F.U." German sign and just walks away. Johan Martens goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. Johan Lorenzen stares after Martens, reaching towards his chest's latch... but stops himself. Johan Lorenzen mutters, "He calls himself a German, one of the Master Race? Pfui." and then lslowly heads for the exit. GALLEY: Sarah Briggs says, "And white bear companion can't fix your boat?" Lizzie Briggs turns around without sitting down. "Bear?" she asks hopefully. Cat looks up from his dinner, cutting a slow glance at the amulet Uli wears around her neck. Twitching his head left to right, his gaze becomes fixated on the necklace. Sarah Briggs sighs, "No bear for dinner, Lizzie. Sit down." Albert Head turns to the diners, "Everyone getting their fill?" He then sees Argent still hasn't served and grumbles, "If ya want something done right...." He trails off and dishes up a couple more plates. Uli Morningsong says, "Need tendon. Need be dry." Argent picks up a dozen sea biscuits, some creamed something (not fish) to scoop over them and several carrots. These he puts on one plate. On the other he places fish, another fish, some sea biscuits and a carrot. Knives and forks and napkins go in his pockets, and a pair of glasses of cider balance precariously crocked in his arm. He heads back to the captain's wife and daughter. Dane Gilling enters from the Below Deck. MAIN DECK: Brock Port says, "As I said, Captain, when we return to land I will gladly arrange for funds to cover my passage." Brock Port says, "And I apologize, again." We ... ta tink .... find ... somebody who ain't so .... tinkin' dat Brock .... ever herar such a ... story? ...... da level." Captain Briggs says, "I accept your apology, but not your excuse." Amelia Rangel quickly adds "I can get my publisher to wire you the funds for the journey." Brock Port smiles sadly. Captain Briggs nods to the two crewmen on deck. "You two stay here." Johan Goodschad mutters to Johan Volkert, "..... da cat or sometin'? A normal's too risky." Johan Volkert tugs at his beard, thinking. "Ja, maybe." GALLEY: Uli Morningsong goes back to eating fish, like this should explain everything Dane Gilling enters with a smile on his face. Lizzie Briggs sits down finally. "No bear?" she asks plaintively. Albert Head holds up one of the plates he just filled in a gesture toward Gilling, "Hungry, Sir?" Sarah Briggs takes the glasses first from Argent, with a smile. "Thank you, Argent." She sets down one glass in front of her daughter, and keeps the other for herself. Lizzie Briggs smiles at Argent. Sarah Briggs looks back to Uli. "Tendon? How ghastly. We're not a whaling ship, you know." Argent sets a plate of creammed glop in front of Lizzie "You _want_ a bear?" Dane Gilling says, "Not right now, Albert, I have a head to fill." Uli Morningsong says, "Tendon strong. Water not eat it." Albert Head holds a plate of fish, vegetables, and fresh bread, which steams as if just pulled from the oven. He nods. Places it back on the serving table. Lizzie Briggs nods happily and coos. "Unhhuh! A big, nice bear. I could scratch it behind the ears." MAIN DECK: Captain Briggs says, "Port, Rangel, you two follow me and we'll get something to eat. Richardson, do whatever you want to, but I'd be happy if you could help Gillings figure anything out."" Brock Port nods, and follows the Captain. Captain Briggs goes towards the Below Deck. Amelia Rangel glances to the Forecastle, then to the hushed conversation, then down to the table. Amelia Rangel says, "May as well."" Brock Port goes towards the Below Deck. Amelia Rangel goes towards the Below Deck. GALLEY: Captain Briggs enters from the Below Deck. Brock Port enters from the Below Deck. Amelia Rangel enters from the Below Deck. Dane Gilling murmurs to Albert Head, "Have .... the ... being .... they should be? Might someone ... filching food?" Lizzie Briggs sits beside her mother, smiling at Argent, the cabin boy. Albert Head dishes up another plate or two and leaves them on the serving board, "Here ye are, Sir. Dinner is served." He nods toward the Captain and other arrivals. MAIN DECK: Johan Goodschad says, "Let me borrow da cat, ja?" Johan Martens stays above deck, doing various things... Johan Goodschad says, "I want ta feed it some fish." Johan Lorenzen enters from the Forecastle. Johan Volkert nods. "You yust a simple guy, Goodschad, but you got some good ideas sometimes. Later though." He sighs and begins rolling another cigarette. Johan Martens scowls at Lorenzen and continues to swab the deck. Johan Lorenzen comes out of the forecastle, glaring in Marten's direction. Johan Goodschad finishes his cigarette, chain lighting another one. "Ja shouldn't smoke dese, Volkert." Johan Volkert scratches his head, ignoring Goodschad's admonitions on health like always. "Now how bout dat. We got all four of us crewmen on da deck. Dat's a waste for sure." Louder he says, "Hey Martens, Lorenzen... you guys gonna be up here a while? I was tinkin' maybe me an' Goodschad could slip down.... get us a bite to eat." Johan Martens nods. "Go ahead, Volkert." Johan Goodschad says, "Volkert; is dat a good idea?" Johan Goodschad says, "Da captain's a good man; smart, also." Johan Goodschad says, "Mebbe we should stay." Johan Lorenzen strolls over towards the rest of the crew, and makes a strangled noise in the back of his throat at this. "I'm in no hurry to venture down into the gallery, Volkert. Go ahead. We can handle it up here; not that there's much to handle." GALLEY: Argent says, "A nice big bear?" He sets the plate of fish in front of the Captain's wife. "Yes missy." Brock Port grins at Albert. Uli Morningsong admonishes Lizzie, "Big bear eat people. Kill, roar. Not friend." Captain Briggs sits down to eat, next to his wife. Lizzie Briggs smiles happily and claps her hands, pretty much ignoring the yucky vegetables argent got for her. Albert Head meanders back toward his work area and notices the Cat not eating. Sarah Briggs nods, "Thank you, Argent." She says to Lizzie, "Alright, you're excempt from fish today but you've got to eat the rest of what you've got." Brock Port takes a plate. "Thank you, sir. And thank you, Captain." Amelia Rangel smiles, and picks lightly at the food while leaning against the door frame, not wanting to be impolite. "Thanks." Lizzie Briggs is busy staring at Argent. "I wanna bear!" Uli Morningsong puts her anorak back on and fastens it closed, despite the air not being cold. Dane Gilling looks around the room. Sarah Briggs smiles at her husband, briefly. Argent offers helpfully, "I'll see if there's a bear in the ship's storeroom." Brock Port finds an empty space, and sits, beginning to eat the fish. Captain Briggs nods to Argent. Lizzie Briggs says, "A big bear!" Sarah Briggs gives Argent a grateful look, and turns to her supper. Captain Briggs looks at Morningsong and say, "You know, you don't have to wear that here, you can put it in your...um..." He sighs. "We'll have to get you two women quarters, won't we?" Sarah Briggs murmurs to Lizzie Briggs, "..... darling." Argent motions with his hands, about two feet, certainly a handful "Big?" Dane Gilling goes towards the Below Deck. Lizzie Briggs spreads her arms as wide as wide can be. "Big!" she says. Argent nods a little doubtfully. "Yes Missy." BELOW DECK: Dane Gilling goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Dane Gilling enters from the Below Deck. Johan Volkert almost leaps towards the hatch. he seems unusually jittery tonight. He turns to goodschad. "Damn it man... you /know/ I'm hungry. Come on." Dane Gilling reports dourly, "Fish again." Johan Goodschad mutters to the air, but does follow Volkert. "Jah, okay." Johan Volkert grins, "Fish... hot damn." Johan Volkert goes towards the Below Deck. Dane Gilling wabders to the rail anooks at the moon, now well above the horizon. Johan Goodschad says, "Da fish must be as bored as we are" Johan Goodschad goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Johan Volkert says, "Okay... let's split up. Whoever finds da cat, bring him to our Quarters." GALLEY: Captain Briggs turns to Sarah. "Would it be okay for me to ask you to board Morningstar and Rangel in our room, and me to hop over and sleep in Richardson's?" Albert Head mulls about his work area, attempting to assess the cat's loss of appetite. Sarah Briggs tries bravely to conceal her shock. Argent scampers out. Argent goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Argent enters from the Galley. Johan Volkert looks suspiciously at Argent as he walks in. "You got dat Goodschad?" Johan Goodschad says, "Ja; okay." Argent says, "Oh, sorry sirs." the little boy looks suddenly frightened." Johan Goodschad looks at Argent. "Das okay." Argent scampers away. Johan Volkert heads towards the Galley. Argent goes towards the Crew Quarters. Johan Goodschad says, "Da girl had da cat last; get me some fish." Johan Goodschad says, "Or do we both go into da galley?" MAIN DECK: "Fish," Lorenzen says with a shake of his head, "How... predictable." Johan Martens says, "Shut up, Lorenzen. If you think you can do better, YOU cook the bloody meals." Dane Gilling smirks. Johan Lorenzen's hands clench into fists, and he growls back. "I could do better with my eyes shut. Hells, /you/ could probably do better." Dane Gilling says, "Cook the cat, then." Johan Martens lays down the mop and growls. "Look, Lorenzen. I haven't had a drink in a month! Don't start with me." "Enough, the lot of you," the First Mate says sternly, and with some amount of exasperation. "Two stowaways, explosions, and all you blokes can do is bicker about dinner. Egads, men." GALLEY: Captain Briggs says, "Well, there really aren't any other choices, as far as I can see." Sarah Briggs says, "Perhaps since Miss.. Rangel is it?" She glances at the lady in question, "Since she prefers men's clothing perhaps she also prefers men's quarters." Lizzie Briggs proclaims suddenly, "He's not nice!" Johan Volkert enters from the Below Deck. Amelia Rangel smiles. "I can sleep where I have been , if no one minds." Captain Briggs looks at Lizzie, "He who?" Johan Volkert walks in, his hat in hand. He sidles up to the Captain, "Cap Johan Volkert says, "Cap'n, Martens and Lorenzen are up top so's I can get a bite to eat." Lizzie Briggs declares, "Mr. Richardson!" Albert Head takes a few slices of fresh fish and squats near the cat, offering them to it as he attempts to locate its fixation. Captain Briggs says, "Sure, Volkert. Grab something to eat." Johan Volkert eyes head and the cat. He slaps some fish on his plate and heads over towards them. "Whatchou doin' dere, Cook? Sarah Briggs spears a piece of fish with a fervor it did nothing to deserve. Captain Briggs says, "I could make Richardson sleep in the crew quarters, and give the women his cabin...the only problem is, Port would have to sleep in there two, and I'm not sure they can hold two more..." Albert Head drops the small pieces of raw fish, "Feedin' the cat, mate." Sarah Briggs nods, with a sigh. "I see your point." Albert Head stands back up and goes back about his business. Uli Morningsong doesn't take her coat off. Sarah Briggs flicks another glance at Rangel and Uli. "Twill be a long trip." Cat looks down at the fish, and mreows softly as it vibrates from the back of his throat. Dropping its head, he begins to slowly nibble on the fish. Johan Volkert looks horrible. His eyes are reddish, and he keeps wiping his forehead. "Ya know what, I tink I got somethin' back in my cabin fer dat damned cat. Sometin he like for sure. Why don't I take him back dere... get him outta da Galley so he don't bother anybody. Captain Briggs looks at Lizzie with suprise, "Richardson suddenly isn't nice? You do remember Richardson, don't you?" Captain Briggs says, "Volkert, don't you touch that cat!" Lizzie Briggs nods solemnly to Papa. "He's not nice." Sarah Briggs's breath catches in her throat. "Lizzie, be quiet and eat your supper." MAIN DECK: Dane Gilling shakes his head and wanders off. Dane Gilling goes towards the Forecastle. FORECASTLE: Dane Gilling enters from the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. Dane Gilling opens Spare Chest. Dane Gilling retrieves a strange pistol-like device from Spare Chest. Dane Gilling closes Spare Chest. GALLEY: Brock Port looks closely at Lizzie. Amelia Rangel watches the little girl carefully, and studies Richardson as well. Cat backs away from Johan, hairs standing up on its back giving a light hiss...almost like he understood him. Lizzie Briggs whines in her best 'It's not fair' voice, "But he's not!" Johan Volkert reaches down to the eating cat quietly, trying to grab it by the nape. He stops suddenly at the captain's voice and looks up sharply. Licking his lips, he nods, "Aye aye captain. i wasn't gonna do no harm. Just thought maybe da passengers prrefer not to ahve animals in da galley wit dem." Captain Briggs shushs Sarah, "Shhh...why isn't he nice, dear?" Johan Volkert mumbles something else, about not feeling well, and hurries out of the galley. Johan Volkert goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Johan Volkert enters from the Galley. GALLEY: Lizzie Briggs mutters to Captain Briggs, "He gives mama ... looks!" MAIN DECK: Johan Lorenzen laughingly holds up his hands in a mock warding gesture. "Ooo no. Don't hurt me, Martens." To the mate, he says "Not much we can do about the explosions or stowaways, so what's the use talking about them instead of something we /can/ change? I can't be the only person on this tub that thinks Head can't cook his way out of a canvas bag, ja?" Johan Martens walks over to Lorenzen. "Just what in the hell does that mean??" he reaches up with a fist and looks to make sure that Gilling is gone, "I could RIP yer bloody face off if I wanted to." BELOW DECK: Johan Volkert looks terrible, "I can't hold it in no more Goodschad. And I keep seein dat boy Argent in my head. I got to /feed/," He looks desperate. Johan Volkert goes towards the Crew Quarters. CREW QUARTERS: Johan Volkert slips quietly in the cabin, closing the door behind him. BELOW DECK: Johan Goodschad goes towards the Crew Quarters. GALLEY: Sarah Briggs colors. "Lizzie! What a thing to say!" Captain Briggs says, "Ah, I think you misunderstand, sweetie." Amelia Rangel laughs out loud. Albert Head hehs, and pops a bite of fish into his mouth to cover his amusement. He chews seriously. Lizzie Briggs stamps her foot. "He does!" Uli Morningsong seems completely impervious to all this. She gets up and makes her rotund way back to the cooked fish, where she heaps her dish full again. Brock Port smiles a bit. Albert Head smiles at the rotund woman, "Good, eh?" Captain Briggs says, "Dear, everyone looks at everyone. I doubt he give the kind of looks you're inplying." MAIN DECK: Bert Richardson watches with a decidedly dour look upon his face as the Second Mate disappears from view. "Very well Lorenzen, if you can find something else at sea other than fish, cook it. And Martens, be still. I'll suffer no fighting upon Captain Billings' ship, is that understood?" Johan Lorenzen's attention is drawn back to Martens, and he sneers in return. "With the first mate right here? I think not, dumkopf." His right hand drops, though, hovering around waist level. Johan Martens looks up to Richardson and nods. "Aye, sir," and goes back to swabbing decks. Johan Lorenzen turns away in disgust, walking towards the hatch below decks. "Might as well find that cat, and fry it up." Bert Richardson looks between the two Johan's and nods curtly. "Very well. If I find anything amiss when I return, it shall be lashes for each." He turns on his heel, and walks away. CREW QUARTERS: Argent frets and fusses, then pulls a heavy white blanket off one of the beds. He looks like he's about to fling it over his head when he sees Johan. Johan Goodschad follows, and says, "Boy, have ya seen da cat?" After Goodschad enters, Volkart whispers, "Shut da damn door." Johan Volkert says, "Hey boy... Argent. I brought ya some food." His voice quavers slightly,. Argent backs five paces and falls over backwards. "Ack!" Johan Goodschad squints at Volkert, and says, "One moment, Volkert. I've got an idea." He reaches forward, tugging on his shoulder. GALLEY: Lizzie Briggs looks doubtful, but is, clearly, swayed by her all-knowing Papa. "Those aren't bad looks?" Captain Briggs assures her, "No dear." Uli Morningsong grunts an affirmative. She carries the dish back, sits down, and continues to eat - for all the world as if she were alone in the room. Lizzie Briggs subsides, not quite entirely convinced. "Ok." MAIN DECK: Johan Lorenzen goes towards the Below Deck. Johan Martens goes towards the Below Deck. BELOW DECK: Johan Martens enters from the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. Johan Martens yells, "Don't you touch that cat!!" FORECASTLE: Dane Gilling goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Dane Gilling enters from the Forecastle. ARRIVED: MAIN DECK: Bert Richardson goes towards the Forecastle. FORECASTLE: Bert Richardson enters from the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. Bert Richardson goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. MAIN DECK: Bert Richardson enters from the Forecastle. Dane Gilling asks softly, "So what do you make of all this, Bert?" Bert Richardson is walking towards the Forecastle as the Second Mate appears. "Right strange, there's no mistaking that," he replies, "In all my years at sea, I have never seen anything quite like this. What do you make of it?" Dane Gilling looks out across the sae and stretches as though to limber up. Bert Richardson watches the second mate, and waits for a reply as he folds his hands over his chest. Dane Gilling says, "That woman in the boat... she's strange, but that man in the suit?" Dane Gilling shadow boxes a bit, saying, "Now, I was waiting for him to pull out a contract and ask for the Captain's soul, I was!" Dane Gilling smiles cheerfully. "Wouldn't THAT be something to tell yer kin about?" he exclaims. Bert Richardson watches the second mate without a bit of emtion, save to crack a small smile at his jest. "Yes... I wonder what the Captain must think of all of this. This is without a doubt the single most bizarre day of my entire life." CREW QUARTERS: Johan Volkert walks slowly over towards Argent, as if fighting withhimself. His eyes actually seem to flicker red with the candlelight. His voice is filled with sorrow, and something more... hunger? "Let me be Goodschad... I got to do dis ting. The blanket settles over Argent's head, and the boy, hidden under the cloth, crawls to a dark spot under a bunk. Johan Goodschad breaks out running, then, towards the door. He opens it, and is out. Johan Goodschad goes towards the Below Deck. GALLEY: Albert Head begins the task of cleaning some of his cooking utensils, making soft, almost musical clinks and clanks. Sarah Briggs gives Lizzie a warning look. "Now you eat your supper, Elizabeth Briggs, or you can go play in our cabin with your doll." Captain Briggs says, "I'll tell you what, Lizzie, next time you see a look, point it out to your mother." Faced with the ultimate threat, Lizzie begins to eat her dinner, saying only, "Yes, Papa." A louder clang rings out, intermingled with a murmer from Albert Head. Albert Head looks around to his diners, "Sorry 'bout that." Albert Head returns to his business. Brock Port jumps a little at the clang. Sarah Briggs takes a breath, and lets it out slowly before returning to her own plate. Uli Morningsong finishes this plate of fish, and rises for a third. Lizzie Briggs toys with her vegetables a bit before losing interest. She glances up, across the room at Amelia Rangel. Captain Briggs eats some more of his food, clearly pre-occupied with the random people on board. Sarah Briggs seems reminded of something by Uli's movement, and says to her husband, "This indian says she needs a tendon to fix her boat." Albert Head smiles at the appetite of Morningsong, "There'll be no leftovers tonight, I see." Captain Briggs says, "A tendon of what? A what's tendon, rather?" Uli Morningsong's beady black eyes focus on Captain Briggs. But she doesn't answer. Or anyway, not yet. Sarah Briggs says, "I was trying to explain that we're not a whaler, and unlikely to have much, uh, tendon on board." BELOW DECK: Johan Lorenzen glares over his shoulder at Martens. "Blast it, are you asking for trouble? Get back up to the deck and leave me alone, you rotten miserable excuse for a scurvy-ridden pollack!" Johan Goodschad enters from the Crew Quarters. Johan Martens's eyes go wide as he reaches back and prepares to slug Lorenzen. Johan Goodschad bolts like a bat out of hell, as he goes towards the main deck. Johan Martens misses, having swung too widely. Johan Goodschad screeches to a halt, attempting to divert his way around the two combatants, and get towards the main deck. Johan Lorenzen ducks under the punch, even though he doesn't really need to, and shouts out "help! Marten's gone mad! He's trying to kill me!" while replying with a punch of his own, a short, dirty blow aimed below the belt. Johan Goodschad seems more intent on really getting up on deck. "Who isn't, ja?!" CREW QUARTERS: Johan Volkert's voice is harsher now. "Damn you Goodschad." He drops to the floor and begins reaching undcer the bunk for Argent, whispering, "Come on out boy... I ain't gonna hurt ya. I promise you'll be fine. I just got dis need is all. I swear you'll be okay tomorrow." There's a snarl, and a sudden strong bite to the hand. Not a child's mouth, something with a lot more teeth to it. Johan Volkert yells in surprise, as he feels no pain. He draws his arm out quickly, hoping to pull Argent out with it. The blanket is dragged along a couple of feet as the teeth grip into the hand. Then with a snarl the form under the blanket retreats back under the bed. Johan Volkert snarls himself, losing control to the hunger. He rips the bunk upwards from its moorings and looks to see what lays below. GALLEY: Uli Morningsong says, "Have tendon. Need boat dry." You hear shouting outside. Captain Briggs says, "Excuse me." Captain Briggs goes towards the Below Deck. Amelia Rangel follows. Albert Head drops a cup, "What that.... ?" Sarah Briggs looks to the door. Brock Port looks up towards the deck. Lizzie Briggs scampers off after daddy when Sarah is looking the other way. Cat perks its ears up, very curious and all, as he bounds out the doorway without a glance back. Martens doubles over, clutching his groin. Brock Port says, "Excuse me, Mrs. Briggs, but are passengers allowed on the deck?" Lizzie Briggs goes towards the Below Deck. Albert Head tucks his knife and cleaver securely into his belt beneath his apron. Brock Port's head turns to watch Lizzie make her exit. Brock Port says, "Apparently." Sarah Briggs looks back to Port, distracted. "Well, I. Yes. As long as you stay out of the sailor's way." Brock Port nods. Sarah Briggs rises from her chair, "Lizzie!" Albert Head picks up the cup, puts it in its place and prepares to follow the others. Sarah Briggs strides out to make sure her daughter doesn't fall overboard. Albert Head puts the platter of fish on the table by Morningsong, "Eat up. I'll be back." BELOW DECK: Captain Briggs enters from the Galley. Johan Goodschad is bolting out. Amelia Rangel enters from the Galley. Captain Briggs says, "What's going on here?" Johan Lorenzen and Martens are in the way of Goodschad, fighting. Lizzie Briggs enters from the Galley. Cat enters from the Galley. Martens doubles over, clutching his groin. Captain Briggs says, "Okay, Goodschad, stop fighting. Lizzie! Get back in the Galley!" Brock Port enters from the Galley. Brock Port goes towards the Main Deck of the Mary Celeste. CREW QUARTE
