Town Meeting Log: Saturday, January 11, 2003. Meeting Room [PennMUSH Public Library] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The meeting room is a plain-looking room. Like the lobby outside, the walls are a soft white and the carpet is flat and gray. The room is illuminated by the same generic fluorescent lights. Dominating this room is a wide circular table made of polished, stained cherry wood. Around the table are 15 chairs, each one the black-leather-and-wheels office variety. Behind the 'head' of the table, at the back of the room, is a long dry-erase board which covers the entirety of the back wall. Provided are dry-erase markers and erasers. Along the right side of the wall is a similar wood stand with a golden tray on it, holding a glass pitcher of water and a set of glasses. Elvira has arrived. GAME: Trispis (admin) is joining your location. Trispis has arrived. Trispis appears from a puff of smoke which quickly dissipates. Boots comes in from the PennMUSH Public Library. Boots has arrived. Trispis absently adjusts his T-shirt, dusting and straightening his sleeves. Umbra comes in from the PennMUSH Public Library. Umbra has arrived. Kyiëren says, "Welcome." Kyiëren says, "Are we ready to begin?" Rulan comes in from the PennMUSH Public Library. Rulan has arrived. Sketch says, "I am." James Bond repeats what he said earlier. :) "I'll likely be idle whilst I try to troubleshoot why my DVD player isn't working. :) I'll keep an eye on the screen and if I have $0.02 on any subject I'll put it in. :)" Kyiëren says, "Sounds good." Boots says, "yep" Kyiëren says, "In that case, welcome to the Town Meeting." Kyiëren says, "I know we haven't had one of these in quite some time, so I'm glad we're doing it again." Kyiëren says, "Allow me to introduce the Town Meeting for those who haven't been here before." Kyiëren says, "We will discuss issues pertinent to M*U*S*H in a friendly, non-hostile atmosphere." Kyiëren ums, hang on a sec. Sketch says, "Idling: One of the main causes of annoyance. ;D" Kyiëren says, "Sorry about that." Sketch couldn't help himself on that. He'll try to be quiet. Kyiëren says, "Anyway, we will use the Moderator Assistant there, and he's easy to use." Kyiëren says, "He'll be maintaining order during the meeting." Kyiëren says, "Please look at him for instructions." Kyiëren says, "I'd like to keep this meeting lean, about 90 minutes." Kyiëren says, "But if we leave earlier, fine." Kyiëren says, "Are there any questions?" Êlvïrå says, "none here" Kyiëren says, "Any at all? If not, we're moving on." Kyiëren says, "Let's move on to Item 2: The last meeting and the year in review." Kyiëren says, "Last year we had a lot of stuff happening, as major life events happened for several people." Kyiëren says, "We also got several new players added to our population, so here's a formal welcome to them." James Bond has reconnected. Kyiëren says, "Here's hoping you enjoy this Town Meeting and can participate in further Meetings held here." Kyiëren says, "We also got two new admin, myself and one K'Alan Bryce (who now goes by James Bond)." Kyiëren says, "Speaking for myself, I'm having a great time." James Bond has partially disconnected. Kyiëren :) Kyiëren says, "His connection isn't having fun though." Kyiëren says, "Anyway." Kyiëren says, "Our last meeting was in 2001, like I said, and I'd like to renew these on a quarterly basis (every 3 months). How does that sound to you guys?" Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Sketch, you may now speak." Sketch says, "Every three months seems very frequent to me. But perhaps this is better for user input? (I'm done talking.)" Kyiëren says, "Well I found every month to be much more frequent. Every three months allows us to know what's going on and keeps us from falling out of touch with each other." Kyiëren says, "We can do a survey and ask people if you like." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Trispis, you may now speak." James Bond has disconnected. Trispis says, "I would like to echo Ky's comment. We tried running it every month... lasted about 2 months... then trickled to ... basically none. (more)" Trispis says, "The biggest problem with this sort of thing is the ongoing preplanned nature of it. One time events are much more likely to produce results (a LARP, a Trivia Game, a Scrabble Tourney, etc.)... because the coordinator has taken the motivation to do it. Ongoing events like this require ongoing motivation." Trispis says, "whatever frequency is decided, the motivation needs to be there to keep it going." Trispis says, "done" Kyiëren says, "Agreed. One problem I can foresee is that we may have trouble getting a MC to commit several months in advance as well. Like I said, we could easily do a survey on this." Kyiëren says, "Any other opinions? If not, we're moving on." James Bond has connected. Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Rulan, you may now speak." Kyiëren will hold his next comment for after Rulan's Rulan says, "I think if their is some small bonus to coming, it will help attendance. No matter how often the meetings are. (done)" Kyiëren says, "Well, I can understand that perspective. The thing is, though, that these meetings are like Civic Club meetings (if you have those). The incentive for attending those is that you know what's going on in your community and can put your two cents in the pot." Kyiëren says, "So in essence, the reward is already there." Kyiëren says, "Plus it would kinda defeat the point to shell out 100 ducats to every attendee. People would come but wouldn't care." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Êlvïrå says, "My concern is that there doesn't seem to be a great public interest in these meetings. I wonder if that is because we're not presenting a clear message about the point of the meetings, or whether everyone just thinks everything is 'ok' at the moment so doesn't have a whole lot to say. I don't see a lot of point in having frequent meetings if only a very small percentage of people show up - it's hardly a MUSHwide consensus. So perhaps they need to be more of an event, (like the village picnic)?" Trispis nods at Elvira's comment. Kyiëren nods. "That would certainly be an option. Making it more of a party event. Good idea. Noted." Kyiëren says, "Any others?" Êlvïrå is slightly confused about the point of the meeting, but will reserve any comments for now. That's all :) Kyiëren says, "Okay. Another thing we may look into is saving suggestions somewhere, so that if they come up and a meeting isn't for another month or so, we could have it for reference. I was discussing this on the admin channel, and a +bboard was suggested. Does that sound like a feasible that you guys would use?" Kyiëren will make a note to clarify the purpose of the Town Meeting. Kyiëren ahems. "Does that sound like something that you guys would use?" Êlvïrå keeps quiet to let players speak Kyiëren didn't mean to speak so bad. Boots nods. Kyiëren says, "Combined sentences, you know." Kyiëren says, "Okay, I'll put that down. A suggestion box." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Êlvïrå says, "If I remember, there were two comments about suggestion boards. One was for a 'Projects' board, so that players who had an idea for an event or a building they wanted to do but needed some help with could post and any admin looking for a project could help them out with what they needed (if appropriate)..." Êlvïrå says, "the other was for a more general suggestion board - things that would be nice to see on M*U*S*H (non-code/technical oriented)" Êlvïrå says, "that's all" Kyiëren says, "Well there's a M*U*S*H Works In Progress board to handle the first." Êlvïrå says, "not really" Kyiëren says, "Any other comments on this issue?" Kyiëren says, "Oh?" Kyiëren says, "Well, continue then." Êlvïrå says, "This would be more specifically, "Hey, I want to run a Twister tourney in March, but I'm really going to need an admin to help me out with this because I need to link my Twister parlour to the grid and arrange a +signup for it." (or whatever)" Êlvïrå says, "The works in progress is more for player support than admin support" Kyiëren isn't sure that a distinct bboard is really required to distinguish admin assistance from player assistance. That could probably be specified in the post itself. Êlvïrå says, "This would also be for ideas - things that aren't in progress, just things that people would like to see" Kyiëren says, "That, however, could be a separate Suggestions +bboard." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Trispis, you may now speak." Êlvïrå shrugs, "Well, I think it should be opened to discussion." Êlvïrå steps down Kyiëren has no problem with surveying for it. Êlvïråisn't particularly championing one over the other - just saying what was mentioned by various admin Kyiëren says, "Few here seem to want to speak today for some reason. :)" Vadiv comes in from the PennMUSH Public Library. Vadiv has arrived. Vadiv is sorry he's late. Êlvïrå waves Vadwards Kyiëren nods. "I'd like to interject that my word isn't final...I'm just offering my opinion as a member of the community as well." Vadiv makes Elvira put down the priceless Vadward before she breaks it and we start getting Vads in here. Kyiëren says, "Please tell me if I'm being abrasive or abusive." Trispis attempts to complement Elvira's comment -- when I think of 'works in progress', I think of things like the building of a new area or a new card playing system... something that's already started and is in a state of development. I think what we're trying to add to that now is something closer to a 'before I start, does anyone think this would be a good idea and how hard is it gonna be and how much help am I gonna need' type suggestion board. Trispis says, "done" Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Viila wakes from the dead and leaves the coffin. Viila has arrived. Viila appears from thin air. Trispis thinks . o O ( did he appear from the coffin or from thin air? ) Êlvïrå says, "Yeah - all I was doing was putting forward a few ways that a suggestion board could be interpreted so that players could discuss the options and say what would be more useful. Perhaps it would be useful to summarise them at some point and ask for opinions. On the feedback board perhaps." Kyiëren says, "Well do any non-admin have comments on this?" Kyiëren says, "...Please?" Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Boots, you may now speak." Boots says, "heh, well i think that a seperate board would be good for the whole range of topics that have been brought up. i for one have a bad memory so if i think of something next week it would be nice to be able to mark it down somewhere... umm thats all for now" Kyiëren nods. "Good to hear from a player." Kyiëren says, "Let's move on, we've got more to discuss. I'll open this up on a survey." Kyiëren says, "Old business." Kyiëren says, "Radio and TV started out as hot items but have fallen into disuse. There was talk of a TV program and radio programs. These things still have potential, but I think it all got bogged down by our real lives." Kyiëren says, "Any comments or ideas for revitalization of the M*U*S*H media?" Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Trispis, you may now speak." Trispis says, "similar to my comment about ongoing town meetings, this one died from a fizzle in ongoing motivation. the people who want to code them don't want to (and probably never did want to) provide content for them. media requires a delicate combination of talents weaved together." Kyiërennods in agreement. Trispis says, "sorry. done." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "James Bond, you may now speak." James Bond says, "I'm not sure about the radio, but I did have some possible ideas for the TV stations. One of the ideas I had was something I was working on for MUDtoberfest, but still haven't finished.... a game show. The only problem with this kind of thing is that it would require being able to mesh several schedules together. As would my other suggestion. We have some creative people here. Why not create one or more TV shows or miniseries? I know I would have an idea or to for that. ;)" James Bond says, "done. ;)" Kyiëren nods. :) Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Elvira says, "I like the media idea. If the code was there and was easy to use, I'm sure people would be willing to do shows. To be honest, I had a radio but found it a real fiddle to use. All it really needs is a channel. The only issue I see is that it's hard to commit. Running a 'weekly' show would be difficult because you'd have to get all the people on to perform it (or record it) and we know how hard that is. Doing the odd radio chat show would be easier - but to be brutally honest, I don't really see how it's any different from chatting on channels (only without being interactive)" Kyieren nods. "I guess it's more the idea of it than the real usefulness." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Vadiv, you may now speak." Vadiv w00ts. Vadiv says, "Alright, I, as most people know, have coded one of those radios. ;)" Kyieren says, "Oh, Elvira, I'm sorry. Were you done?" Vadiv pauses. Elvira yups Kyieren okays. "Sorry. Go ahead Vadiv." Vadiv unpauses. Vadiv says, "And I've been constantly trying to make them easier, though thisis rather difficult because no one seems to give me fdeedback. ;)" Vadiv says, "But if anyone wants a radio show, they can but ask me and get the booth at KPPL at scheduled intervals, or I'll even give them their own microphone or even a new station." Elvira grins and notes she had one a very long time back Vadiv says, "Though I would much rather you use the existing stations we have, either KPPL or K101." Vadiv says, "Though I don't know how easy it is to get on K101, but I'm sure it's not hard. ;)" Vadiv rambles on and on for hours.... Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Viila, you may now speak." Vadiv is done. ;) Kyieren says, "You most certainly are. :)" Viila notes briefly that one problem with the shows is also the audience. Namely, quite often the lack of one... From my own experience, the usual number of people is quite small. Viila says, "It may be discouraging for someone to labour over content that only a handful will enjoy." Viila says, "Not even a handful at worst cases (Town Meeting 3 and 4 come to mind ;-P)" Kyieren nods. "I think lack of variety and updates is one reason that happens. When k101 first started, their hourly mantra was more annoying than informative. It will require some effort on the part of the content producer to make it something people care to see." Viila nods and is done now. Kyieren nods. Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Kyieren notes this will be the last comment on this topic. We'll need to move on. Elvira has been in this situation IRL. I worked on a hospital radio station. We had a beautiful studio and were broadcasting good shows, but a lot of the radios that patients had were broken, or they didn't even have one on their bed. It's a vicious circle - no point broadcasting unless your audience are all aware that you exist and that it's easy for them to listen to you. That means publicising the station and making it really easy for them to get a radio that works. Then, you can worry about the content and start pushing out shows. People will be more enthusiastic once they know it works Elvira says, "So.." Elvira says, "If you're serious about restarting media on the M*U*S*H, get the radios and tvs user friendly and advertise them, then hold 'open mic' times so people can do their shows or just announce on a bboard that they can book studio time. Alternatively, simplify it right down and just create a channel that people can play-act their tv shows or radio shows" Elvira says, "" Kyieren nods. Kyieren says, "We could also consider a newspaper." Kyieren :) Kyieren says, "Moving on." Kyieren says, "One item I'm skipping over for time constraints is the Home Showcase idea that was presented. Where people dress up and tour homes, have dinner parties and such. I'm guessing it never got off the ground because it wasn't organized. Hopefully someone will pick up the baton (ahem ahem) someday." Elvira never even heard about it Elvira says, "(Another call for a suggestion board =))" Elvira shushes Kyieren says, "Let's go to the next: the Andy's are going to be held here. It's taken a year off due to RL concerns but it will be hosted here, possibly from now on. Anyway, if anyone would like to help out, please @mail me here or email to kyieren@cyberspace.org." Kyieren says, "Questions or comments?" Kyieren says, "Very good, moving along." Kyieren says, "New business." Kyieren says, "I'd like you to consider a proposal. I'm thinking I'd like to expand the main grid in 2003. I would like to expand M*U*S*H to be more of a world, with different land structures and oceans and air to navigate. Not necessarily a bustling metropolis but something bigger than the sleepy little town we're in. Now I realize this is grandiose, but I really think it would give people something to do." Kyieren says, "What opinions or comments do you have?" Vadiv ooos, likes. Kyieren says, "(Players, that means you too.)" Sketch would have a much bigger world to map with his GPS... He likes that. Kyieren notes this will require player cooperation. It's not just going to spring up on its own and you just walk around. Boots says, "sounds good but its hard enough finding places in this size let alone something bigger..." Sketch notes that one or two people would actually explore the new area... Kyieren says, "Boots, get in the queue so we can discuss that. It's a good point." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Elvira clears her throat, "I have a couple of comments on that. First, I believe in quality over quantity. What we have at the moment is a grid that is well mapped and easy to navigate, with a lot of very interactive, interesting buildings and exhibits. There's a lot for people to do here, from the casinos and batting cages to the tea garden or sculpture trail..." Elvira says, "I would /not/ like to see a load of poorly desced or hurried rooms popping up that do nothing but give players places to 'explore' - they could be done as separate realms connected to the grid, but I think the main grid should be kept very simple..." Kyieren nods. "Quality will indeed be a must. Empty rooms will look very poor indeed." Elvira says, "I believe that M*U*S*H is very nice for newbies - they can find places easily and get around. Even dinosaurs keep finding things here that they didn't know about. I've been to social places like... I dunno, LambaMoo for example. It's massive and it sprawls. There are all kinds of realms, all higgledypiggledy together and people never congregate except in their own rooms. And come on, most of the places we already have aren't used that frequently. When was the last time you went and sat in Salvador Deli or Minou's Cafe? I say keep the grid in proportion to our playerbase and allow it to expand naturally. If players or admin have a great idea for an addition to the grid, check it over and add it, but don't just say 'Hey, we're going to build and expand the grid' just for the sake of making the grid big. I don't like that. " Kyieren says, "Right." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Vadiv, you may now speak." Vadiv says, "Left." Vadiv has aalways been pro-grid, whatever that means. ;) Vadiv says, "I think a more important change woul dbe some sort of mass-transit." Vadiv says, "Instead of people @telling everywhere." Kyieren nods. Viila just drops a quickie that he agrees with Elvira. Vadiv says, "And I think a bigger grid would not make things harder to find if we had easier ways to get around, nexuses if you will." Vadiv says, "Like what Ky said, other cities." Vadiv says, "Other *small* cities." Vadiv says, "And a way to find out new interesting places, as part of this mass transit I was talking about." Kyieren nods. Vadiv has tried to do this, but simply doesn't have time to find all the interesting places. Vadiv says, "Oh, and here's a random idea: ability to get a room already on the grid." Vadiv says, "I mean, you can reserve a room, b ut it's invisible until you pass inspection." Vadiv says, "If that makes sense." Kyieren nods. Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Boots, you may now speak." Vadiv says, "right now, we have people building things, and then never moving them to the grid." Kyieren says, "Oh, sorry." Vadiv says, "Well, that was about all. ;)" Kyieren is going to shoot himself if he continues jumping the gun. Kyieren says, "Boots' turn now?" Kyieren checks. Aye. Vadiv says, "Go ahead, boots." Vadiv thinks he answered whatever point boots had, though. Kyieren nods. He may have thought of more in the meantime. Kyieren says, "Ack, he's idle." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Mond, you may now speak." Mond steps forward to speak. Mond says, "I'm a newbie here, and thought I might give the newbie perspective." Boots says, "i agree that themain grid should stay at the size it is and have the new city idea. The quality of this mush is very high but i do have trouble finding this like information (i am a newbie to mushing, not just this mush) things like i get disorintated when i'm in the library and all of a sudden i got through an exit and i'm in the school house" Kyieren says, "Oh, sorry Boots. I saw 11m and thought you were gone." Boots says, "oops sorry, i'm still here :P and i'm done" Vadiv says, "According to Robert's Rules of Order, Mond and Boots now have to fight to the death." Kyieren says, "Heh." Mond says, "Anyway, I just want to agree with what Jlvore said earlier about quality and quantity." Mond says, "Sprawl is a very bad thing on MUD's." Vadiv hehes, Jlvore. Boots says, "eww, i should check what i write b4 sending it, sorry" Elvira is Elvira, not Jlvore - you need to get a better client ;) Sketch says, "An anthropomorphic scorpion vs. a human... What are my bets? n_n" Kyieren says, "You mean Elvira. Change your font to Terminal or something. :)" Mond says, "Distance is no problem, though, I think." Vadiv says, "her name is accented, @set me=NOACCENT to see it normally. ;)" Mond steps back, finished. Kyieren nods, "Thanks for that." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Kyieren says, "We're coming up to 90 minutes and still have a couple of issues, so try to make it brief. We can table some issues for another meeting, or open it up to survey." Kyieren says, "And don't forget the +bboards." Elvira oks, "Just one more comment. As far as I know, we have no limits on building - if you've built something you're really proud of, you can ask for it to be inspected then linked to the grid. Everything on the grid has had a lot of thought go into it and is very rewarding for players to explore. I don't really see how you plan to push for further 'expansion' - we're already expanding at the rate players and admin build quality areas that were based on inspiration, time and effort - rather than just a 'need to build'. That's all" Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Vadiv, you may now speak." Vadiv says, "Okay, firs tof all, I should I mentione dI've tried to do both the 'sub-city's, with the Mall, and the 'interesting places', with the blimp. Second, I agree with Boots that we should keep movements IC, and have some sort of *obvious* 'leaping across the grid' exits when we have them. That's it. ;)" Elvira notes - by the way, I like Vadiv's transport idea. Trams or something would be nice Elvira really finishes Vadiv is finished also. Vadiv says, "Oh, expect that I can't do either of them by myself, it's too much work." Vadiv says, "God, I cannot type right now." Vadiv pokes? He's done. Vadiv thinks, while Ky's idle, that we should just keep this meeting going until we get to everything. People can always read the log and post to the bb if they have more to say. Kyieren says, "MC's privilege of having the last word (I made that up). I'll point out the current grid isn't well-suited to expansion. I was hoping to go for something were we had streets and numbered exits (though that's not impossible in the current grid). I really would like to see growth though, and quality is going to be a must if we're to do this. I'd like to move this to the +bboards if you wish to discuss it further (I'll make the introductory post if you want) and we can open it up to survey for a vote." Kyieren says, "Yes." Kyieren says, "Next. I was thinking of having at least one, pre-planned, GDA-announced event per month. I understand some things have been going on, but it'd be nice (IMO) to have some notable occurrence happening every month, something to look forward to. Comments and opinions?" Kyieren says, "I know someone has something to say." Elvira stands under a halo =) Vadiv thinks it really depends on people actually having something to do. ;) You can't just make events out of thin air. ;) Kyieren notes an objection raised was that events shouldn't be overdone, and thus people stop coming and you've done all the work for nothing. Kyieren says, "Well there's MUDtoberfest and the Meetings themselves. Holiday in the Park and other holiday parties. Those all count." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Elvira coughs Vadiv says, "Also, all the money people keep sending me in the mail might cause me to miss important mail when it overflows my mailbox, so I'm worried about that." Vadiv shuts up. ;) Elvira says, "Ok, my opinion on this is similar to my opinion on bilding. Basically, I think we have plenty of things happening - in the last few months, since Mudtoberfest, we've had loads of events - China had a Halloween party, a group of us went Trick or Treating for fun, there was a pumpkin and an ornament hunt, Time had a poker tourney, people gave talks on things like Ruby and the GPS watches, I had a Christmas party, Jav had a quiz night. I think if you try to organise entertainment, it'll be like something out of a holiday camp where you end up with terrible 'knobbly knees contests' or whatever. I say let people come up with ideas for events they want to run (again, using a suggestion board or admin-help request board or whatever) and run with those. As admin, we should facilitate players who want to run events. And players, if you have a great idea for an event, go for it. Some months will be busier than others and that's only natural in the ebb and flow of the year..." Kyieren notes we're going to wind down here in 20 minutes. Elvira says, "who takes responsibility for the 'monthly event'? Admin? If so, I don't relish brainstorming each month for the 'event' - it'll just end up being a bit crap and having a low turnout. As I said, just encourage and support players to run their own events or if an admin has a great idea, run with that - and announce it early so that people can come. That's all." Kyieren says, "Other opinions?" Kyieren says, "Brief ones?" Umbra forgot the question. Viila agrees with Elvira. Elvira says, "should there be a monthly organised event?" Vadiv nahs, agrees with Elvira. Kyieren says, "Next topic." Boots says, "i would prefer a good event to a must have event..." Elvira says, "everyone knows Viila has the knobbliest knees anyway ;)" Elvira giggles Vadiv . o O (Is knobbliest a word?) Kyieren says, "What about creating a MUSH history? Some kind of record of what we have done over the years. Notable events we can record on a webpage or something. You know how RP worlds write their histories on a webpage and when you go read it it sounds all fascinating and strange and really interesting? Would that be a good idea to do here? Would any of you like to be official historians, perhaps?" Elvira . o O (+define knobbly) O o . Viila . o O ( mush.pennmush.org? ) Vadiv is with Viila's thought bubble, there's a lotup there. Vadiv says, "Though I have a really fun gag I'm going to do wometimes with it." Vadiv says, "But that's a secret." Kyieren says, "Well those are more logs of certain events. But what about other events like Scrabble Tourneys and marriages and births and graduations and such?" Sketch . o O (Hello? Cool... Echo!... MY NAME IS SKETCH!... Sketch.. sketch...) Vadiv shrugs, wouldn't want to do it, but someone should. Elvira notes they all get mentioned in the OC of the yearly Mudtoberfest Elvira says, "which is logged" Kyieren says, "Well maybe we could try it and gauge the response?" Kyieren says, "I think it might look cool, a scrollable history all together like that." Moderator Assistant looks down at his clipboard and says, "Elvira, you may now speak." Elvira wells, "As I say, it's all in the OC each year - but it tends to be about regulars. Births and marriages are so rare among the general age group of MUSHers, I can only think of 3 or 4 in the last few years (most of which are covered on mush.pennmush.org in one form or another). If you're counting newbies and occasional players, then that would up the total, but would be harder to keep track of and probably not so interesting if you don't really know the person. Kyieren sees nobody else in the queue... Elvira shrugs, "Again, it seems a bit redundant. Maybe you could put a timeline on the mush.pennmush.org page for important player events. Or..." Elvira has an idea Elvira says, "We have admin bios up" Elvira says, "what about a player bios page?" Elvira says, "that would be cool" Boots says, "heh" Elvira says, "Maybe not on pennmush.org if Jav doesn't want to use the space - but linked to it" Elvira says, "that's all" Vadiv says, "That's a lot better than my idea of 'room bios'." Kyieren says, "Well there's so much attrition in the playerbase. People are in and out so often, it may be hard to keep current. Moreso than an entry in a history page." Kyieren says, "Plus that depends on the player keeping it current, and people will likely let it lapse after a month or so." Kyieren says, "But the idea is not without merit." Elvira would be more interested in reading player bios than three lines in history saying Javelin had a baby. Elvira had a baby. Talek, JT and Tabbifli got married. (which is all I can think of) Elvira wouldn't care if they're a bit out of date. You could simply link to their home pages instead - or in addition to a bio. Kyieren nods. "Well, either way, someone will need to be in charge of it, so if there are any volunteers reading this log, please speak up sometime." Kyieren says, "We've gotta move on." GAME: Walker (admin) is joining your location. Walker wakes from the dead and leaves the coffin. Walker has arrived. Walker suddenly and simply... is. Vadiv says, "This isn't a log yet, it's an actual discussion, Mr. Metaphysically Jumping the Gun. ;)" Kyieren says, "I'm going to go ahead and adjourn. Thanks to everyone for your attendance and input. They are greatly valued. I'd like to do this again in April, maybe, so be on the lookout for the next announcement. If any player wants to run the meeting, you can use the Moderator Assistant to help you out." Elvira hrms, "No room for additional comments on the meeting?" Kyieren says, "I hope you don't forget these issues I've brought up, and I'll post a summary of them on a new Suggestions board." Kyieren isn't done, Elvira. :D Kyieren says, "There's room for debate on the +bboards, channels, and I'd like to also do a survey on some of the issues presented and then maybe do some kind of pseudo-feasability study on them." Elvira hehs Kyieren says, "Any further comments or concerns?" Elvira thinks it would be interesting to hear feedback on the meeting and whether anyone has any suggestions for next time around Kyieren will get to that in a bit. Vadiv says, "Yes. Don't think I didn't see everyone trying to make off with a library copy machine." Elvira also feels players should have a chance to offer any ideas /they/ have for the MUSH. Vadiv says, "It's pointless, they're bolted down, so don't do that." Kyieren says, "We're already running at 2 hours and a lengthy log. We'll have to save them for the board or the next meeting." Boots says, "heh, i'm trying :)" Elvira hms Elvira says, "we discussed all /your/ ideas." Kyieren says, "Okay. Thanks for coming everyone. Meeting adjourned."
