Marretta says, "Welcome to the M*U*S*H Town Meeting for March 2003. Today's event will cover some new announcements, some open discussions, and some recapping of recent events."

GAME: Grinna (admin) is joining your location.

Grinna has arrived.

Grinna appears silently out of the wall.

Marretta says, "There will also be time at the end for players to share concerns or ideas. If you'd like to be placed on the agenda for that portion of the meeting, just page Marretta with the request."

Marretta smiles tolerantly at Mr. Hat. "I suppose any dancing could occur after that.

Mr. Hat feels.. mischievious.

Marretta says, "I will attempt this meeting without a moderator assistant. After each item, I will pause for comments. Once I've moved on, though, if you've missed your window of opportunity, feel free to @mail me with your concerns or comments."

Marretta says, "If you need time to type a lengthy response, you should let me know so that I can pause appropriately. Otherwise, I hope for the meeting to be quick-paced and to the point. Basic chatter that doesn't really speak to our agenda should be kept to a minimum in order to facilitate these announcements and discussions."

Marretta says, "The agenda is available in '+bbread 1/47'"

Marretta says, "First some announcements. Great applause is appropriate (after the announcements are made, of course)"

Marretta says, "Congratulations go out to China who we are very pleased to have aboard as a new admin."

Marretta says, "Also to Kyieren who has received his wizbit since the last Town Meeting."

Marretta says, "Here at M*U*S*H, wizards that discover that for real or virtual life reasons they cannot remain an active admin often go 'emeritus.' They retire their wizbit for a roybit and they help out when and as they can if they so choose. It is a joyous occasion when they can return to active status, and we are very pleased to have Matt back with us and up and active."

Sketch says, "Sometimes, all the admin seem to be idle, or none are online."

Marretta nods. Indeed. I'm sure that happens, sometimes. It's a great thing we have helpful players, too...and the use of @mail.

Marretta says, "Here's a nifty announcement..."

Marretta says, "2) Announcement of new @chan feature: @chan/recall"

Zebranky says, "Okay."

Cheetah says, "Plus some admin are on, but @hide. So if something happens, when they wake up, action is taken."

Okay says, "Oh.. Marretta?"

Okay says, "Please warn them of the spam when they use it."

Marretta says, "Okay?"

Zebranky says, "Okay! ;)"

Okay says, "On the +Simpson's channel. :)"

Marretta says, "A new feature will be available on selected channels enabling folks to recall a given number of lines of text on selected channels. While this is a useful and nifty new feature, it also brings up some privacy issues. Now what you say on channel is available to anyone, not just the people connected at that point in time. For more information on this feature, try 'help @channel3'"

Marretta says, "I'd like to point out @chan/recall channel=<lines>, with an emphasis on the =<lines> bit."

Cheetah notes it's not enabled on all channels, too.

Marretta nods to Cheetah

Javelin says, "They refer to the maximum amount that can be stored in the buffer."

Javelin says, "Roughly, multiple them by 8192 to get the total buffer size in characters."

Marretta says, "I'm going to move on to another nifty announcement!"

Marretta says, "3) Announcement of new, supplementary, soft-coded chan system: -chan"

Jules blinks.

Marretta says, "This chan system will be open to everyone. Each player may choose to create one channel for their own use. At this point, creation needs to be done by an admin, so if you'd like a channel, please contact an admin type person or @mail Cheetah. The channel creator determines who is on the channel. These channels are treated as private rooms. This system is experimental, and we expect it to be used responsibly. '+help minuschans' and '+help minuschans2' will be helpful in exploring these possibilities."

Marretta says, "Questions/Comments. (This would not be the time to ask for your personal channel, btw)"

Êlvïrå would just like to emphasise that these channels can be used like private rooms. If you can talk about something in private here, it's ok for the channels - that's why you use your discretion in who you want to invite onto your channel. Anything that would constitute harrassment or a breach of the aup (like planning a server hack) would be dealt with in the same way as it would if it were taking place over multipage.

Zebranky says, "So PG13+ language is okay if everyone on the chan is okay with it?"

Zebranky says, "Methinks -chan owners should be able to make them open to everyone. Otherwise you run into people announcing on +p "Anyone interested in (blah), page me to be invited to -(blah).""

Êlvïrå actually agrees with Zebranky. I think they should have the option of being public or private. If they're public, you can choose to exclude people. If they're private you choose who to include

Jules says, "Eehhh.. The typing in names fully doesn't sound fun to do. Why not match -channels with grab(v(chanlist),%0*) or something, so the entire thing doesn't need to be typed?"

Zebranky says, "Ooh, good one."

Jules says, "And SAME with +view. +help has it down pat."

Êlvïrå says, "Just regarding channel naming. I'd suggest that we don't allow duplicate channel names, so if there's a +public channel, we don't go and make a -public channel either. I'd also suggest that channels shouldn't be intentionally misleading or offensive. Finally, I'd suggest that if someone makes a -party channel (for example), someone else shouldn't ask for -party1 because they like the name."

Grinna says, "I agree with Elvira"

Cheetah says, "Well, completion has some disadvantages and code trickinesses. Will look into it."

Javelin notes, as an aside, that +help does not do prefix matching as you'd want it for channels.

Cheetah says, "Exactly."

Marretta nods and offers her own gratitude for Cheetah for the time he put into coding the minuschan system.

Marretta says, "While we have the minuschans, that doesn't mean there isn't some room for improvement in the regular channel system."

Marretta says, "Are their ideas for channels that can be scrapped and channels that should be added?"

Zebranky says, "Does ANYONE use +101?"

Jules releases crickets.

Sketch did.

Jules says, "Yeah, well."

Cheetah says, "Once in a while."

Zebranky says, "okay, I withdraw the question."

Zebranky says, "But I propose (for Telgar, who is absent) a +Spoof chan."

Sketch laughs.

Zebranky says, "Where you're encouraged to pretend to be other people."

Javelin is pretty happy with the current channel list. +Pets would be my candidate to remove if I had to have one, but I'm not sure it's really in the way.

Cheetah doesn't think Pets was ever really used.

Jules votes that we make a buffer on the -clock- channel. ;)

Zebranky agrees.

Marretta says, "Spoofing on a public channel would open us up to some harassment issues and some badnesses that I'm not very keen on patrolling."

Cheetah says, "Softcode your own ;)"

Zebranky snickers.

Marretta says, "Are there any other suggestions for /new/ channels?"

Marretta says, "5) Highlight action from last meeting: Several changes were implemented because of suggestions and ideas that were received at the last Town Meeting and also through the survey that Kyieren activated after that meeting. (Thanks Ky!) Here are a few of them:"

Marretta says, "a. Changes to the Bulletin Boards: The purpose of bb2 "Suggestions and Feedback" was adjusted. You may +bbread 2/1 for more information. bb6 was renamed to M*U*S*H Event Announcements. +bbread 6/1 for more information regarding that."

Marretta says, "b.Changes to Urban Renewal: Urban Renewal has been disbanded. Kyieren is currently forming a M*U*S*H Building Council to oversee the development and organization of the main grid. Media: Radio: I think one of the most novel live uses of the radio media was Vadiv's coverage of the last Andy's event as his commentary was as interesting as the festive proceedings. During the last Town Meeting, Vadiv mentioned that anyone interested in using KPPL is welcome to contact him. So if you have any interesting ideas about how to put this technology to good use, go to it!"

Marretta says, "Vadiv also wanted me to mention his rugged good looks and the fact that he is available. Remember...for a good time..."

Marretta says, "e. Media: TV: Cheetah and Viila have been working on MGT: M*U*S*H Global Television: This technology can go live or it can also videotape something and play it back later. The kick off event for MGT is going to be a broadcast of _Whose Pose Is It Anyway?_. This game show was put together a month or so ago by James Bond and might have some guest stars the rest of you recognize. The planned showing time is for next weekend!"

Cheetah says, "A few notes from me there :)"

Zebranky says, "I gotta make myself another TV"

Marretta says, "Chee?"

Cheetah says, "I both have plenty of room for broadcasts on MGT, and, if it'd actually get used, maybe your own TV station."

Zebranky says, "IF it'd get used..."

Marretta coolios. "I'd like to note that in order to have access to radio and tv broadcasts, you need to actually have a radio or TV.

Marretta says, "Both of those have a parent in the PennMUSH Public Library."

Marretta says, "f. Social Events: The last meeting and the survey talked about monthly events. I believe there was talk in the survey regarding a Social Council. We didn't exactly have folks beating down our doors to volunteer for such a council, however. With that noted, I'd like to invite anyone who is in attendance or anyone who reads the log later to come up with ideas for events you think might draw a crowd. Not only do we want the ideas, though, we want the people who have some initiative to actually organize and conduct the event. There are admins here who would gladly offer support for such events. We've had many wonderful mortal run events in the past and we welcome folks who'd like to get involved and contribute to M*U*S*H."

Cheetah should dig up MUSHball and iron out the quirks.

Sketch uncoils his tail from around his waist, and steps up to the stage.

Marretta steps aside.

Sketch says, "I've been announcing the presence of the GPS watches for a while now, (in more ways that one, if anyone remembers. n_n;) and I'd like to talk about what they can do. After that, do I have time for questions, Marretta?"

Javelin has disconnected.

Marretta nods.

Sketch says, "Oh, and we do have a GPS/BBoard."

Jules says, "It's not done /yet/, but I plan to have my computer code opperational by the month's end... April, that is. Probably sooner. At this point, I will allow parenting to it, as it is a very powerful tool, and quite useful."

Jules says, "That point, rather.. When it's done. :)"

Marretta says, "Nifty. Thank you."

Marretta says, "Anyone else?"

Viila says, "Question. What does the computer actually do? :)"

Cheetah says, "Short burst. If you want a chan, I'm here now ;)"

Jules says, "A /lot/ of things, Viila. I plan to write a help file for it. :)"

Zebranky says, "Does it find Riemann integrals? ;)"

Jules says, "Not yet."

Zebranky says, "No, I don't know what they are, but they sound neat ;)"
